Description

Taxiphyllum sp. « Spiky Moss » is a decorative aquarium moss originating from Asia. Its deep-green, thick and heavily branched shoots give it a dense, structured appearance that is particularly prized in aquascaping.

Larger and more robust than Christmas moss, Spiky Moss is ideal for greening a root, a rock or a vertical surface. Its branching is shown off particularly well when it grows on an upright element of the decor.

It can also be divided into small tufts and arranged at regular intervals to gradually create a natural plant carpet.

1-2-Grow! culture

This moss is cultivated in a laboratory and delivered in a sealed cup. It is guaranteed free of snails, algae and pesticides. It is thus perfectly suited to aquariums housing shrimp, sensitive fish or snails.

Characteristics

• Scientific name: Taxiphyllum sp. « Spiky Moss »
• Brand: Tropica
• Format: in vitro 1-2-Grow! culture
• Type: aquatic moss
• Origin: Asia
• Difficulty: easy
• Growth: medium
• Approximate height: 3 to 10 cm
• Light requirement: low
• CO₂ requirement: low
• Position: foreground, midground or hardscape
• Use: roots, rocks, decorations and vertical surfaces
• Suitable for planted aquariums, nano aquariums and shrimp tanks

Preparation:

  1. Gently remove the moss from the cup.

  2. Carefully rinse off the nutrient gel with clean water.

  3. Divide the moss into several small portions.

  4. Attach the portions to the decor or place them in the substrate.

  5. Leave enough space between the portions to encourage their development.

Installation on a root or a rock

The moss can be held in place with fishing line, special aquascaping thread or a small amount of glue suitable for aquariums. It will gradually attach itself to the support, forming a dense plant cover.

Maintenance:

Spiky Moss requires little maintenance. Occasional trimming helps keep a compact shape, improve water circulation between the shoots and prevent the build-up of debris.

It can grow without CO₂ injection, but balanced fertilisation and a CO₂ supply will encourage denser, more regular growth.
