Description

Taxiphyllum alternans ‘Taiwan Moss’ is a decorative aquatic moss prized for its dense, branched and slightly trailing growth. More compact than some classic mosses, it allows you to quickly create a natural layout on roots, stones and technical elements of the aquarium.

Easy to maintain and undemanding, Taiwan Moss suits beginner aquarists and aquascaping enthusiasts alike. It adapts to a wide range of parameters and can grow under moderate lighting. Stronger lighting, balanced fertilization and a CO₂ supply do, however, encourage a more compact growth.

This plant is offered as a Tropica 1-2-Grow! in vitro culture. It is grown in a laboratory in a controlled environment and normally contains no snails, no unwanted algae and no pesticides. It is therefore particularly suited to aquariums housing shrimp and other sensitive animals.

Characteristics:

• Botanical name: Taxiphyllum alternans ‘Taiwan Moss’
• Type: aquatic moss
• Difficulty: easy
• Origin: Asia
• Indicative height: 3 to 10 cm
• Growth: medium, dense and branched
• Lighting: low to medium
• CO₂: optional, but beneficial
• Placement: foreground, middle or hardscape decoration
• Use: roots, stones, plant walls and hiding equipment
• Packaging: Tropica 1-2-Grow! in vitro culture

Planting tips:

Gently remove the moss from the cup, then carefully rinse off the nutrient gel with clean water. Divide it into several small portions and attach them to a stone or a root using a fine thread or an aquarium-safe glue.

Regularly trim the new shoots to keep a compact shape and prevent the upper layers from depriving the base of light. Do not plant the moss deep in the substrate.
